Project type Web site redesign

Requirements Some old friends of mine from Crossroads Church asked me to redesign their existing site. They had just worked through a recent redesign with another local firm and were not happy with the results. The site the got was built on dated technologies and was not visually engaging. The new site needed to be fresh, modern, and robust. With regard to functionality, they wanted simple landing page to offer a summary of information to first time visitors. Internally, they needed a robust, multifunctional content management system with the ability to publish new content, make updates, manage events, and capture visitor information via several types of forms.

Process I worked with Crossroads Church to develop an appropriate scope for the site to define all of the project's requirements. It was a major undertaking and susceptible to scope creep, but we kept it on track. I gave them several concepts and worked with them on each element of the design to get it to a reasonable compromise of what they were asking for while still meeting web standards of design and usability.

Solution I gave Crossroads a detailed proposal for the project and began work on it as soon as they accepted and issued a deposit. I set them up with a popular content management system that allowed their content managers to publish new content and edit existing information. Per the requirements we agreed upon, I built modules in the site to manage events, publish sermon summaries, add podcasts and videos, manage and add forms, and display photo galleries. I also built them a nice image rotator on the front page to display featured content.
